Wales ‘End to End’ success for Cardiff Ajax

Cardiff Ajax Cycling
On a windy Saturday night last weekend, at just after 7.30pm a team of 16 cyclists from Cardiff’s Ajax Cycling Club rode through the city centre and down to the Norwegian Church to finish their Wales ‘End to End’ challenge, raising more than £4,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care in the process.

The ride had started at 5.15am in Holyhead on Anglesey, and wound its way down through Wales via Porthmadaog, Dolgellau, Caersws, Builth and Brecon over a distance of 210 miles in one day. Despite what had seemed a grim weather forecast for the day, with periods of heavy rain and headwinds predicted, conditions were largely favourable until near Brecon. After almost 170 miles of riding, the team found the climb up the Beacons to Storey Arms in the wind and rain particularly tough.

Eric Hodge, a founder member of Cardiff Ajax
The End to End ride was dedicated to the memory of Eric Hodge, a founder member of Cardiff Ajax over 60 years ago who passed away in December 2010. Eric has been cared for at Marie Curie’s Holme Towers Hospice in Penarth. Having himself ridden Lands End to John O’Groats at the age of 77 to raise money for the welfare charity of his old regiment, the Welsh Guards, who support of our troops in Afghanistan, this was fitting tribute.

The team was made up Cardiff Ajax club members over wide range of ages, both male and female. Fellow club members provided food and mechanical support from a vehicle provided by club sponsor, Griffin Mill Garages of Pontypridd. Numbers were boosted by other club members who joined the ride for the final 35 miles and through Cardiff to welcome party at the Norwegian Church.

The End to End ride was organised by Tenby native and medical student, Charlotte Ratcliffe who said:

‘I was amazed that so quickly after suggesting this ride to be almost inundated with club members wanting to join. It was a tough but enjoyable day’s riding and spirits in the group remained high, even after the tiredness really started to set in. We certainly would not have been able to do it without our support team.’

Fiat Tops CO2 Reduction Rankings

Fiat MultiJet
Fiat continues to set new standards in carbon dioxide reduction, after both the Fiat brand and Fiat Group recorded Europe’s lowest volume weighted CO2 emissions, according to JATO Dynamics, the world’s leading automotive consultancy and research firm.

Fiat Automobiles logged a CO2 average of just 123.1 g/km (4.7 g/km less than the 2009 average), placing it top of all brands for the fourth year running, and well ahead of the European target of 130 g/km, due to be met in 2015.

Fiat also ranked first among the motor groups with 125.9 g/km, an improvement of five g/km on last year. The figure takes into account all Fiat’s brands, including the Ferrari supercars and Maserati’s high performance luxury vehicles.

This eco-friendly achievement is the result of a long-term Fiat strategy based on a two-pronged approach: implementing technological solutions aimed at containing consumption and emissions, and raising the awareness of motorists to spur a more responsible, eco-compatible use of their cars.

Fiat’s MultiAir, MultiJet and TwinAir engines are all part of that strategy, along with initiatives such as alternative fuels (CNG Natural Power and LPG Easy Power), Start&Stop; electronic gearshift management (Dualogic robotised transmission), electronic traction management (Traction Plus) and Fiat’s eco:Drive, the in-car software which analyses driver behaviour and suggests ways to improve it.

lena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland:

“Every year Fiat is raising the bar in terms of fuel consumption reduction and respect for the environment, and it is rewarding that we have posted the best figures for the fourth consecutive year. Every vehicle we sell is making its own contribution to lowering emissions, and playing its part in making the world a cleaner place in which to live.”

FIAT AND GUCCI ANNOUNCE THE FIAT 500 BY GUCCI

Fiat 500 Gucci

In the year marking the celebration of both the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and Gucci’s 90th anniversary, Gucci and Fiat are proud to unveil the 500 by Gucci, a special edition of the iconic Fiat 500 customised by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini in partnership with Fiat’s Centro Stile.

This unique collaboration between two of Italy’s most respected brands represents the perfect combination of craftsmanship and style. Launched on the opening day of Milan Fashion Week, the 500 by Gucci is also presented at the Geneva International Auto Show (3-13 March), in a dedicated Gucci pop-up store within the Fiat stand.

The black and white colours of the 500 by Gucci, in unique eye-catching glossy pearl glass paint complement one another: black, with detailing in shiny chrome paired with interiors that contrast sharp black and white, for a contemporary and racy feel; white, with satin chrome detailing and ivory and black interiors for a softer, sophisticated look.

Fiat 500 by Gucci will be available in the UK this summer.

The New Fiat Mylife Models

Fiat Punto MyLife
A new collection of well-equipped, high value models has just been introduced across the Fiat passenger car range.

Called MyLife, the new trim level was launched last Friday (18 February) with Fiat Punto MyLife, and is followed up this week with Fiat Panda. Bravo, Qubo and Doblo MyLife vehicles will be introduced later this year.

Part of the Fiat range, the MyLife cars are not limited editions. They focus on style and technology, with a special emphasis on choice and value for money, in a car carrying an impressive equipment list. Original and distinctive, MyLife cars combine design, technology and eco-friendliness in a single product.

Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland:

“We’re very excited to be launching this new model strategy which offers customers the best value proposition within the core segment of each model range. MyLife focuses on style and technology while at the same time offering a proposition that represents sheer value for money. I am sure this will be of interest to many new and existing Fiat customers.”

In terms of style there are several highly visible changes to the recognised exterior of the Punto MyLife, such as a special gloss finish (Piano Black) to the front and rear bumper inserts and door pillars.

Like the GP and Sporting versions, Punto MyLife has dark tinted headlights and burnished tail lights to give a sporty look and feel. The car also gets body-coloured door handles, 15-inch sports style alloy wheels and front fog lights

Inside Punto MyLife has an enhanced soft touch black dashboard with sporty perforated inserts. As standard, it features Blue&Me telecommunications and information with the facility for TomTom sat nav, Start&Stop with Gear Shift Indicator and air conditioning.

Available with Fiat’s 1.2-litre 8v (69bhp) engine, Punto MyLife current price is just £9,995 (3-door) and £10,595 (5-door).

Panda MyLife is based on the 1.2-litre 8v (69bhp) Active model and comes as standard with 14-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and remote central locking. It is currently offered at just £6,995.

Recent feedback

We’d like to thank our customers who have taken the time to contact us and express their feedback on their experience with Griffin Mill Garages.

Here’s a recent message we received with glowing praise for one of our salesmen, Nick Parry. If you’d like to contribute a message please contact us.

Mr Evans, a very happy Griffin Mill customer:

‘I wish to commend one of your staff Mr Nick Parry on the excellent service he provides at all times to your customers. I have just purchased my 6th Car with Griffin Mill, and with the current financial situation in the country this is a big achievement by your company, with your competitors offering very attractive deals.

I research all other dealers in South Wales and indeed West of England before purchasing a car, and time after time I cannot fault Nick’s knowledge and honesty.

I am a manager myself and acknowledge how important good trustworthy staff are and how the the company is portrayed to highest level. Nick certainly does this time after time.

I trust you will congratulate Nick on his achievement in this very difficult market and I wish I had a member of staff like Nick in my team.’
